For the 41st year running, the Crealdé School of Art is getting in its cups—and its goblets, and its bowls and just about every other vessel designed for drinking (or eating) that you can name. Crealdé’s traditional Cup-A-Thon will once again show off one-of-a-kind ceramic work by its artists, students and other friends of the institution. All of it will be available to purchase and even fillable with your beverage of choice upon request.
Part collector’s bonanza and part community-minded social mingle, Cup-A-Thon earmarks 100 percent of the proceeds raised to upgrade the school’s ceramics equipment and programming. Most of the pieces come directly from the school’s kilns and the artists’ own vaults, says Crealdé Executive Director and CEO Emily Bourmas-Fry. Prices will range from $10 to $45 for ceramic mugs and goblets, with vases, plates and other creations varying more widely in cost.
Cup-A-Thon hours will be 7 to 10 p.m. both Friday and Saturday in the Showalter Hughes Community Gallery on the school’s main campus. As always, the event will be hosted by its founder, Vincent Sansone, the former ceramics studio manager who has designed a commemorative T-shirt that will be on sale alongside the vessels.
New to this year’s Cup-A-Thon will be partnerships with local wine vendors—a combination that will add yet another level of hometown boosterism to a weekend that’s already, well, drunk with it.
The Crealdé School of Art is located at 600 St. Andrews Boulevard, Winter Park. For more information, call or visit the website.
