The Music at the Casa concert series at Winter Park’s Casa Feliz will become a family affair when the father-daughter duo Ella & the Bossa Beat bring two generations of jazz and bossa nova to the iconic historic home museum.
Ella Blu, vocalist, and Magrus Borges, her drummer/percussionist dad, will keep the atmosphere sultry from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. even as the scorching summer heat (hopefully)
surrenders to the more moderate fall season.
Regardless, the talented twosome will present an al fresco recital of classic Brazilian numbers and original material during which Ella will show off her skills at scat vocal improvisation (shades of that other Ella). Magrus will flex the musical muscles that he has brought to bear on such hit records as 2021’s Grammy-nominated album Agora by Bebel Gilberto.
With roots in Brazil—where Magrus was born and Ella was raised—the Florida-based team tours the U.S. and records regularly: The date at Casa Feliz comes amid a spate of national bookings keyed to their own most recent album, this year’s Amare.
Wine, beer and snacks will be available for purchase. Getting a ticket in advance is suggested, as space in the venue’s outdoor courtyard is limited. (In the event of inclement weather, performances move indoors to the Polly & Thaddeus Seymour Parlor.)
While you listen, be sure to take in the ambiance of the lovingly preserved Spanish farmhouse, which has been a hub of cultural activity since it was built in the 1930s by renowned architect James Gamble Rogers II.
