“We’ve had different music but somehow always come back to jazz and blues,” says Tracy Micciche, event and marketing manager for Harry P. Leu Gardens. She’s talking about the gardens’ live-music nights, which began in 1986 as the Moon Stroll.
Now there are two full concerts per year—the latest coming Saturday, October 18. The Leu Gardens Jazz and Blues Concert will feature three popular practitioners from Central Florida. Gates will open at 6:30 p.m. and tickets are available online only.
Jazz saxophonist Tony Wynn and his band, TW6, will appear on the event lawn, while the Buddy Blues Band, led by Beirut-born guitarist Buddy Blues, will take over the lawn of the Historic Leu House Museum. Flamenco guitarist Don Soledad will bring his Don Soledad Trio to the south lawn of the Welcome Center.
One ticket will buy listening rights to the trio of concerts. You’re free to relax on any lawn, lounge in a gazebo or stroll between performances and enjoy the music and scenery at your own pace. And don’t forget to bring some folding chairs or a blanket.
You’ll recall, perhaps, that there hadn’t been a fall concert at Leu Gardens for the last two years so that the botanical wonderland could host Happy Frights and Haunting Nights on Halloween. That event isn’t scheduled for this year, so if your tastes run more toward the laid-back, corporeal end of the spectrum, then this is one ghost from the past that you’ll be happy to welcome back.
Harry P. Leu Gardens is located at 1920 North Forest Avenue, Orlando. For more information, call or visit the website.
