Art and Inspiration

If you’ve been a loyal reader over the last two decades, then you know how much I cherish the holidays. And if you’re new to our Artistry family, you’re on notice. I love everything about November and December, from turkey and fixin’s to live trees and everything wrapped (no matter the size).

I still value my “kids’ tree” on which we hang handmade ornaments, some tattered and torn, crafted by my four children—who now range in age from 17 to 34. Now, I’ve been blessed with three grandbabies and another on the way.

So I try to be a good steward of our traditions while creating a few new ones. This year, for example, our Thanksgiving gathering will feature a paper turkey-building contest, and I’ll continue baking a special treat with the little ones. Seeing the festivities through their eyes makes my heart smile and reminds me that holiday magic isn’t something you grow out of—it’s something you grow back into.

In this issue of Artistry, we feature beautiful gifts that have been created by a wide-range of artisans—from handcrafted jewelry to hand-painted stationary. Although our Holiday Gift Guide is a reader favorite, these treasures can be purchased year-round.

And just a reminder: Tickets are a great option for a date night or for someone on your list who loves experiences. From Creative City’s Dazzling Nights at Leu Gardens to several productions of The Nutcracker to an array of concerts and plays, you’re sure to find the right fit. We’ve also included a few recipes for holiday gatherings. Guests always love enjoying a signature cocktail or mocktail paired with a delicious appetizer (Elevate your Holiday Party).

This time of year is for giving—time, talent and treasure. Perhaps introduce a friend or family member to a new cultural adventure. Be an art ambassador by spreading joy and magic. Because in the creative community, there’s always room for one more.
