Certain vistas, gardens, shorelines, forests or ordinary neighborhood streets can remain with us long after we’ve left them. “We often think of landscapes as something external, but the places we experience become part of who we are,” says Bob Jimenez, founder and gallerist at Solana Fine Art in Winter Park.
Atmospheres of Place—which is slated for October 23 to November 15 at the gallery—will explore how environments, whether real, remembered or imagined, can shape our psychological terrain.
Featuring Florida-based painters Ellen Kaiden and Orit Reuben, the immersive exhibition will engage both observation and emotion, inviting viewers to consider “place” in a deeply personal way.
“As artists, both Ellen and Orit are deeply attentive observers,” says Jimenez. “Their works encourage us to experience our surroundings more thoughtfully. In a world that demands constant attention, Atmospheres of Place offers us an opportunity to slow down, reflect, and reconnect with nature, with memory and with ourselves.”
Kaiden is a full-time watercolorist, with studios in Boynton Beach and the Berkshires in Massachusetts. Her works often suggest the echo of a location rather than show its literal form.
Reuben, a former interior designer and now an award-winning impressionist pastel painter whose work often depicts glow and intense light, was born in Israel to a family of artists.
If you attended this spring’s annual Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival then you’re already familiar with her work; her painting of the canal that connects lakes Osceola and Maitland was chosen as the festival’s official poster.
Atmospheres of Place will showcase a collection of new works by both artists. Reuben will present luminous landscapes inspired by Florida and other Southeastern settings, while Kaiden’s contributions will capture the rhythms of nature through layered washes and expressive color.
Adds Jimenez: “I believe that this exhibition will leave visitors with a renewed appreciation for the places that shape who we are and how we see the world.”
