The 24th Annual Global Peace Film Festival rolls out the red carpet at Enzian on Saturday, September 15, at 6 p.m. for an opening night presentation of the feature film A Break in the Rain.
The award-winning 2025 release stars Michael O’Keefe (The Great Santini) as Jake Watson, a bereft father whose son, like his late wife, has died of cancer. While driving a cab, Jake picks up a country musician named Catriona Walsh and the pair end up taking a revelatory two-week road trip.
Nina Streich, festival founder and director, says the two-week event operates on the belief that “peace begins with each and every one of us.” Through September 19, documentaries will be screened at various venues in Winter Park. On one night, Oscar-winning guest filmmaker Marshall Curry will present two of his recent works: The New Yorker at 100 and Street Fight.
Other highlights will include the 2022 film Surviving Pulse: Life After a Mass Shooting in recognition of the 10th anniversary of the local nightclub tragedy. From September 21 through 27, the festival goes online for its “Free for All Shorts,” a curated collection of short films from around the globe.
Screenings continue September 26 and 27 at AFRO TV on International Drive with films and panel discussions. The finale will be the premiere of FusionFest Mygration Films’ 2026 collection—all short documentaries that capture immigrant stories in Central Florida—and, of course, the awards ceremony.
Festival passes and single tickets may be purchased on the festival’s website or at the door.
