IF THERE’S ONE thing I’ve learned while living in Central Florida, it’s that we have an unparalleled treasure trove of authentic local arts and culture waiting to be opened and explored. As your neighbor and a fellow arts enthusiast—as well as the CEO of United Arts of Central Florida—I invite you to enjoy this issue of Artistry and to embark on a journey that will allow you to experience the arts your way.
From the local art galleries of Mount Dora and Sanford to the theaters and museums of Loch Haven Cultural Park to the vibrant heart of Downtown Orlando, the options for such experiences are endless.
Whether you’re a local or you’re just stepping off the Brightline, there’s something for you to enjoy every single day. Want to get your hands dirty? How about a weekend workshop at Crealdé School of Art, the Maitland Art Center or Orlando Museum of Art?
Maybe you’d rather sit and relax while listening to world-class music from one of our 10 professional musical organizations or see a play staged by one of our 19 professional theater companies. And let’s not forget our festivals. There are more than 50 hosted annually to celebrate the rich melting pot of cultures that make up our community.
But I get it. Decision fatigue is real and can make us feel paralyzed instead of empowered to try something new. That’s why I’m excited to share ArtsinOrlando.com with you.
This new website is more than an endless calendar of events; it’s your go-to guide to everything our region has to offer in arts and culture, organized by destinations and experiences. You can also subscribe to the Discover newsletter to receive bimonthly email reminders about upcoming festivals, performances and exhibitions.
Looking for a curated experience? ArtsinOrlando.com offers “A Day for the Arts,” a series of tailored itineraries and destinations for those who want to enjoy the local creative scene on their terms. Each maps out must-see cultural destinations, public art and some of the region’s best bites.
Each itinerary is designed to last about 2.5 hours, but there’s no rush—you can knock one out in an hour or, taking a more leisurely pace, spread it throughout the day. Explore an art exhibition or join a guided art tour that suits your schedule. Discover artsy hotels that immerse you in creativity, perfect for a staycation or a weekend getaway. (The Wave Hotel in Lake Nona, for instance, features a stunning sculpture garden by local artist JEFRE.)
What I have experienced—and I hope you have, too—is that every time I take the opportunity to show up and participate, I get a beautiful reminder of just how important it is to embrace and hold firm to our commitment to help the arts thrive.
As seen in every issue of Artistry, there’s truly something for everyone, from kids to seniors, in Central Florida. I encourage you, wherever you are on life’s path, to say “yes” to new creative adventures. The beauty of this journey is that there’s no right or wrong way to enjoy it—only your way.
As we embrace the spirit of “arts your way,” remember that you have the power to tailor your experience. Whether you’re a planner by nature or prefer a go-with-the-flow approach, add some color to your life by exploring all the creative wonders our region has to offer.
