Renowned architect and interior designer Juan Montoya once said, “A room should never allow the eye to settle in one place. It should smile at you and create fantasy.” That sentiment will ring true for Solana Fine Art’s upcoming exhibition, Designer Showcase: The Fusion of Art and Interior Design.
During the showcase, which will run from May 17 to June 26, the two-story gallery will feature 10 vignettes of roughly 50 to 70 square feet each. Owner Bob Jimenez challenged participating designers to bring their best, most creative ideas to curate breathtaking and immersive spaces.
Once the designers have done their work, Jimenez will add a finishing touch to each vignette with a piece or two of complementary artwork from the gallery. Think of it as wandering through an impressively upscale and extravagant Ikea.
“Because there are so many different designers involved, there’s going to be a little something for everyone,” says Jimenez, who adds that visitors should expect to see everything from sitting rooms to bathrooms—as well as art that makes the spaces even more special.
The idea is the result of collaboration between Jimenez and Christi Ashby, who owns Orlando’s Interior Appeal magazine. Attendees will have a chance to vote for their favorite designs in three categories: Most Distinctive, Most Innovative and Audience Favorite.
“Art for so many people can be intimidating because they feel like they need to know something about art, artists, genres, mediums or styles,” notes Jimenez, who wants to spotlight the work of interior designers and to demonstrate how seamlessly art pieces can be incorporated into their plans.
He adds: “My focus is really to show how approachable art can be, how friendly it can be and how easy it is to marry art with whatever your décor is.” A portion of the proceeds from the exhibition’s opening weekend sales will be donated to Habitat for Humanity.
